Vaak weten mensen niet dat vogels een spiermaag hebben. Dit houdt in dat zij maagkiezel nodig hebben om het opgenomen voedsel te vermalen. Dit bevordert de spijsvertering, waarbij er meer voedingssappen vrij komen welke de conditie, weerstand en rui bevorderen.
